I Never Actually Believed Three Could Be Worse Than Two, But Now I do!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's a list of all the things Michael has done this week. Oh, has he been busy!!!

It all started on Monday when he decided that he wasn't going to be taking any more naps. I'm not exactly overjoyed about this at all, but I can't force him to take a nap, so I decided that we would implement some "quiet time" for an hour or so. During this time he would sit in his room and play, read some books, sing and talk to himself, and just give me a break. Sounds good, right? Except for the fact that Michael doesn't think this sounds fun at all! He would NOT stay in his room, and this is still something we're still working on. He usually comes out about 10 or so times announcing he's done. He just doesn't get it!

So that's about the extent of our troubles for the beginning of the week, if you don't count TOTAL defiance. Life was a bit stressful and trying but we were okay. Then Wednesday happened. I don't remember what I was doing, but it was really nice because I wasn't being interrupted! It wasn't until a few hours later that I realized exactly WHY I wasn't being bothered by him. He was busy putting the phone into the toilet!!!!! It had been completely submergerd for a few hours, so it was totally worthless.

Then Thursday....This is bad! I wasn't going to mention this, but this just adds to the craziness that has been our life this week, so it needs to be added. Just please, please, PLEASE, don't think of us as horrible parents!!!!! Okay, so I had just put Michael into his room for his "quiet time" when I heard some paper rustling upstairs. I thought about leaving him and just relaxing, but I decided I shouldn't. Well, it turns out that Michael had gotten into some pills! Yes, pills. Luckily, he didn't have any effects from them and he was just fine, but we did have to spend about 7 1/2 hours in the hospital so he could be monitored for any ill effects. And what is a boy to do in a hospital for 7 hours??? Well, anything he wants, right? That was what Michael thought! There's all those buttons to push, different drawers to look into, so many rooms to explore...oh, it was TERRIBLE!!!!!! Finally we were able to go home and hope that Michael learned his lessons about drinking or eating things that were not his.

Friday, we realized that lesson had NOT been learned by Michael...I came up, again, during his "quiet time" to find an empty bottle of mouth wash floating in the toilet...Yup, he decided he was thirsty!! So another call was made to the poison control center in less than 24 hours....luckily this was a generic brand and didn't contain anything too harmful, so we were able to stay at home and just monitor him there.

Saturday was a nice day. We decided that we would stay out of our house as much as possible and give Michael as much time as he needed out of the house in hopes that would help this craziness stop! Well, it stopped on Saturday, but not quite today. This morning he managed to get into our laundry soap and dump it out on the carpet (trying to wash his coat), upend a jug of juice all over our table and carpeted floor, and try to drink some baby powder.

And, yes, we did go out and buy some child locks. We specifically looked for those that you place over the door knobs to prevent being able to open doors. We put one on the inside of his door so he can't get out (I know, doesn't sound very nice, but I'm at my wits-end!), and one on both bathroom doors. Has that stopped him? OF COURSE NOT!!! He figured it out within 1 hour! So now those don't do a thing, except give us 30 seconds notice before he's escaped!

So, anyway, now we're wondering what we're getting ourselves into!!!! We've got a crazy, out-of-control three year old and we're expecting another one!!!!!! Why, oh why, oh why!!!

If you have any suggestions, I would LOVE them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No suggestions- just sympathy! Boys are awful at 3. Girls are awful at 4. (At least that's how my kids have been.) It's a wonder they survive! Good luck!

Hey Congrats on being preg. again I am excited for you. And here is my advice. Locks that are above there head. It works great. Atleast keeping them out of places you don't want them. Other than that I am sorry. Porter is barely growing out of naps so I make him rest. Since quiet to him is doing the same thing he has been doing only quieter. Love ya

Okay, your're scaring me a little. My girls weren't like that. Is this what I have in store in the next couple years?

First off, I feel your pain! My boys recently figured out how to take the door knobs covers off as well! Our solution....Anthony took some duck tape and wrapped it around the cover! That way they couldn't break it open! So far it has worked really well!

I'm so sorry this is happening... especially in the early stages of pregnancy. I can't say that I understand any of this since my little guy isn't even crawling yet, but I had a friend who was trying to keep her little guy in his room for quiet/nap time, and she actually turned his door knob around so that the lock was on the outside. She would then lock it and after about a week, he stopped trying to escape. As far as I know the doorknob is the correct way and he is much better about quiet/nap time.
