Oh man, this last week has been i-n-s-a-n-e!!!!!! It's a pretty long story, so consider your self warned!
For the last month or two, we've been trying to move to some town homes across the street. With Nathan's new job, it's not too helpful to live in subsidized housing (rent is based on our income) and we're paying quite a bit more (like, 200 dollars more) than the average tenant. The town homes across the street are the same price that we're paying right now and it includes internet (which we're paying 50 bucks for) and cable (which we currently don't have...I can't WAIT to get it, though!). It also has hook ups for washers and dryers (that would be an AWESOME b-day present Mom and Dad. hint, hint!) So it's a pretty good deal.
So we turned in the application and the last week of January we got a call from the manager. She was telling us there was an opening and we would be getting in around Feb. 20. We were over joyed at this news. The next day we went in and started the paper work and got some information from the manager. She explained what was happening (a family was moving out of a 3-bedroom apartment and a different family was moving in from a 2-bedroom apt. We would be taking the 2-bedroom apartment left open. Hope that makes enough sense) and said that we needed to put in our 30 day notice to the manager at our complex. The next Sunday I saw the family at church and I brought it up. She proceeded to tell me they weren't moving! (I KNOW!!) She explained they were hoping too, her husband was lined up for his 3rd interview with a company later that week and then they would decide. They had talked to the manager and explained what was going on and put in a tentative 30 days. Before they left they told the manager to not tell ANYONE what was happening.
So we were pretty concerned and called the manager. She reassured us that it would work out fine and she was sure this family would get the job. She also eased our minds about our 30 days notice. She said that we could retract it do the fact that both complexes are government subsidized housing, and to not worry. What we didn't realize was that our complex is owned by a different division of the state government that doesn't allow a retraction of a 30 day notice. On Thursday, we found out he didn't get the job. We had to be out in 2 weeks...Talk about stress!!
So we knew we had to start looking around to figure out were to go inbetween the time it would take for us to get kicked out of our current place and move across the street. So I looked online to see what contracts were for sale for apartment complexes around town. I happened to find one listing that was 11 days old advertising an apartment contract that would expire at the end of April! I called him and he said it was still available. I was able to look at it later that day and it's a pretty nice place. It's smaller than here and there's not as much storage, but it's a place to stay. So I told him that we would take it. We have a meeting with the managers of that place on Monday morning.
But I also found out a few days ago there's still a chance to get in across the street. Apparently someone may be moving out on Monday or Tuesday and we could then get their place. That would, obviously, be the ideal situation. We would prefer to only move once and only pay one deposit. But we're still waiting....
I can't even explain how stressful this week has been!! We have to be out of our apartment in 10 days, and we're not sure where we'll be living. We don't want to sign a contract for a different apartment complex only to get into across the street a few days later. But then again we don't want to procrastinate signing the contract in the offchance that we can't get in before our scheduled move out date. It really is a pickle. We'll keep you updated!

Amy, I'm so sorry about all the mess with the apartments. I think that is one of the most stressful things to deal with. I hope everything works out for you guys!
moving stinks... especially when there are added stresses.
