Okay, so this is a post that I have been delaying for a few months!! I do not want to post it, becuase that means I might actually have to stick with it. So Nathan and I are starting a new diet. I'm not sure if I can even say this is a new diet, but it's been a few months since we last started it. We started it and were doing very well. I think I had lost about 10 pounds or so and Nathan had lost about 20. Everything was going great, and then I got pregnant. We were still doing well, but I was starting to fall off it, but was still keeping the weight off. Then I lost the baby....we've being going down hill from there. We're getting back on it, and we're going to keep track of it on here...sorry for more boring posts. :) So, what I'm going to do is post the actual diet. We're also going to weigh our selves and make some goals...no, I am not going to post how much we weigh!!! I will post our goals, and post how close we are to those goals each week. Wish us luck!
So here's the diet:
It's basically a diet for diabetic and insulin-resistance people. And it's not a fun one, at all! But it works! So here it is!
No bread, pasta, potatoes, white rice AT ALL until weight down 5-10 lbs or 10%...includes all bread products. When weight down, may start adding small quantities (3-7 servings/week) back to diet, but use complex carbs-i.e. vegetables, nuts, fruit.
POP includes too much phosphate and will put blood pressure up, even diet--exclude from diet. No fast food even most restaurant food contains too much trans fat--especially pizza, hamburgers etc,
Best foods to eat:
Red, green, yellow vegies--5-10 servings/day
fruit--1-2 servings/day--especially apples, oranges, blueberries, strawberries, dried fruit
use fruit, no juice. Fruit has fiber
use fruit for desserts--no sweets
grapefruit--may interfere with certain drugs
nuts--all tree nuts especially almonds, walnuts, pistachio-5-8 nuts once or twice/day for snacks
skim milk for snacks- 1/2 cup once or twice/day
green tea or black coffee
lean meats-- beef, pork chicken without the skin (skin has too much fat)
fish
cheese--low fat cheese
eggs
oatmeal for breakfast-- not the individual packages, steel ground is best
excercise for 30 min. 5-7 times a week--waling, eliptical, biking, swimming, treadmill, etc.
alcohol-1 drink a day
salt--no added salt on table
olive oil perhaps canola oil only for cooking
Goals for weight loss:
Nathan: lose 5 pounds
Amy: lose 10 pounds
Some of you may think this is kind of wierd that we're doing this. Posting my to do lists every week and now our weekly weight loss. But honestly, it reallys helps us stay motivated and feel some accountability in what we're doing. This has really become our family journal and is a great way for us to keep track of our lives and we really look forward to actually printing this off and having a hard copy of our lives. This is another step in our lives, and we're excited for an easy and organized way to keep track of our family's journey's.
ETA: Due to the lack of food in our cupboards and the lack of money to buy new foods until the 2nd of the month, we will be officially starting our diets on the morning of Tuesday, June 3. Every Sunday or Monday is when I will post the amount of weight lost and how close we are to our short-term goals.

Sounds like an interesting diet. I'm going with the old-fashioned counting calorie life style. Good luck to you both! It certainly is not easy, but at least you have each to lean on and help. Isn't it great being married?!
Hey so the diet I like is the South Beach one it is geared for insulin resistant people, When I stick to it, it helps me it is pretty similar but a little easier to me. The book tells you how to eat and gives you recipes and a menu to follow. I like it because you don't have to cut all the bread and pasta for more than two weeks. YOu should check it out!
P.S. Congrats on actually starting and sticking to a hard it is hard work! Are one of you insullin resistant? Cuz I am! By the way when is a good time to go to the park. I am usually at Porter Park Mon, Weds, Fri from 830 till whenever I get bored. So if that works for you come keep me company.
Way to go!!! I agree about the South Beach Diet. I've been on it for almost two months now I and I still find it easy to do. I've lost three inches off my waist and fat all over my body. You could even incorporate several phase one recipes from the diet into what you are doing now. I wish you luck and I'll be checking to see how it is going!
