Finally, after 18 months of life, Michael is finally sleeping on his own! And it's heaven! When Michael was a little baby, Nathan and I fell into some really bad habits. We would only put him to sleep in two or three ways. One way was I would just feed him to sleep. Then we would either put him into our bed, or into the car seat. He loved the car seat and could sleep for HOURS in that thing!!! That was the other thing we would always do, swing him in the car seat. Even as he got older, it was very tough for me. Well, we finally got sick of doing all these special things for Michael and having them only work sometimes that we decided to finally just let him learn how to do it on his own!!! I was sooo scared. He had never slept in his crib and I was worried that he would have a problem with it.
So on night one (almost 3 weeks ago) we did our new routine and I put him in his crib wide awake and walked away! It was probably the hardest thing I've had to yet. Well, he only cried for about 45 minutes and he was asleep!!! We were amazed and soo proud!!! Then the second night we did the same thing. I was expecting it to be a lot harder than the first night, but it wasn't. He only cried for about 15 minutes!! Again, such amazement and pride. The third and fourth nights he cried for 5, and night five he didn't even cry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now he doesn't cry at all either and practically jumps out of my arms into the crib. It is soo wonderful to not have worry about his bedtime and if it was going to work or not. And we love having the time to ourselves at night before we go to sleep.
I just don't know why we didn't do this earlier!! Now if only naps would get this easy.
